This interim report sets out the findings from research carried out between August - September 2022 to find out how young people living around Church End, NW10 were experiencing their local area and what their needs and aspirations were for a new youth hub. This research fed into a series of three co-design workshops in Autumn 2022. These invovled young people from Church End, we discussed how the space will be designed and used.
Our research team included four local young people who worked alongside our field team to design the questionaire and to interview other young people. Our youth researchers were all recruited through United Borders, a local youth agency.
This phase of the wider project to design the new youth hub set out to explore the physical and social fabric of the area surrounding the site in Church End, NW10. We mapped local assets and vacant places as well as space that young people use. We explored young people’s perceptions of the neighbourhood, their community, and their needs for the future youth space to fulfil their aspirations.
This research was commissioned by Brent Council as part of the Church End Regeneration scheme.
From the research and the co-design workshops we created a social value framework for the youth hub. This sets out the outcomes that the hub needs to deliver. This is the starting point for programming, management and design.
We are working with ZCD Architects on the design of Church End's new youth hub.
