This short report presents a picture of how Corby is faring as a place to live, work and grow for its residents. It uses Social Life's social sustainability framework to explore the town's key strengths and weaknesses.
The assessment draws on research Social Life and The Young Foundation have been conducting in Corby, along with a workshop held in November 2018 with residents and stakeholders.
The assessment is intended to be a tool for planning and ideas development rather than a definitive verdict on the town. It will be used during our next workshops in Corby, where participants will develop ideas for practical solutions to address some of the challenges facing the town.
This forms part of Bright Future, an ESRC-funded project in association with JPI-Europe, working with people in small and medium industrial towns in Europe to explore their socioeconomic characteristics, qualities and underlying resilience. The research will feed into practical ideas and policy recommendations geared towards supporting industrial towns to thrive into the future.
