Grow Tottenham is a meanwhile use project on Ashley Road in Tottenham Hale. A community garden has been created on a 10,000sq ft site at Ashley House that was built as a civil engineering depot and has been vacant since 2014. There have been two volunteering sessions a week, and a wildflower meadow, kitchen garden, micro-allotment plots, polytunnel, community kitchen and carpentry workshop were started. The garden is largely funded using the income from the cafe and event space, which has a 5am license at weekends. This supports the cost of building and running the garden and subsidises a program of free workshops and events.
We're speaking to people who use the Grow Tottenham space to find out what it has meant for them over the last few years. Grow Tottenham is closing at the end of August 2022 and we aim to document the impact on people's lives of the big range of activities and supports that have developed in the space.
In 2017 we carried out similar work for the Grow London CIC on their site in Elephant & Caslte, Grow Elephant.
